Obituary – SAR Compatriot – Raymond C. Nagel – May 1st, 2024

Unfortunately, we lost another member of our SAR family.

We are saddened to learn and share that Compatriot Ray Nagel  passed away on May 1, 2024.

Ray joined the SAR and Cincinnati Chapter in 2018 and was an active member through the end of 2022.

Ray was a proud US veteran.   He was also a member of the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War.  He was an active member of that organization for much longer, including serving as commander of the SUVCW Dept. of Ohio in 2005.

The thoughts and prayers of the Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution are with Ray’s wife, family and friends.

 

Ray’s services will be on Friday May 10th 2024.

Visitation will be held on Friday, May 10, 2024 from 10:00 am-11:00 am at the Arlington Memorial Gardens Funeral Home, 2155 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231 (FOLLOW THE BLUE LINE). A funeral service will follow at 11:00 am with Deacon Larry Day officiating. Burial will take place directly after the service at 12:00 pm at the Arlington Memorial Gardens, 2145 Compton Road, Cincinnati, OH 45231.

In loving memory of Raymond Charles Nagel, a devoted husband of 58 years to his high school sweetheart Norma, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and friend, who peacefully passed away on May 1, 2024, in Cincinnati, OH. Born on June 2, 1946, in Cincinnati, OH, Raymond led a rich and fulfilling life filled with love, laughter, and a dedication to his family and community. He graduated from North College Hill High School in 1965 and went on to study at the University of Cincinnati and Xavier University.

Raymond was a proud military man. Beyond his professional accomplishments, he found immense joy in his various passions and affiliations. He was an active member of several organizations, including the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War and the American Legion Post 513, where he served as Past Post Commander four times. Raymond’s commitment to honoring the country’s history extended to his work with the Sons of the Revolutionary War (Sons of the American Revolution) and his membership in the American Indian Council and as a member of the Germania Society. He was named as an honorary Kentucky Colonel.

A man of many talents and interests, Raymond’s engaging personality, sense of humor, and researching his family’s genealogy back to the 1400s left a lasting impression on all who had the privilege of knowing him. His involvement in the community and dedication to honoring veterans through playing the bugle and serving in the American Legion Post 513 Honor Guard showcased his unwavering commitment to making a positive impact on those around him. He played semi-professional football for the Lefties and enjoyed watching his alma mater the University of Cincinnati football team.

Raymond is survived by his loving wife, Norma Nagel; daughters, Michelle (Eddie) Swegman and Denise Nagel; grandchildren, Justin Weber, Jacob Ahr, Christian Weber, Aaron Weber, Jessica Wright, and Beau Swegman; 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Cynthia (Gary) Mullen, Brian (Leah) Nagel, Gregory Nagel, and Kimberly Nagel.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Janet (Myers) Nagel; sons, Michael Nagel and Duane Nagel; grandchildren, Brian Weber and Jenna Barton; brother, Phillip (Betty) Nagel; sister, Janice Whitehead; and his very best friend, Gus.
