Sharing this article on Facebook which shares some information on the Northside monument which commemorates the accomplishments of Israel Ludlow who was responsible for laying out the city of Cincinnati.
Also significant is the fact that General “Mad” Anthony Wayne and his army encamped here in 1793.
Some history is captured below from the Facebook article:
The Ludlow monument anchors a pocket park on the corner of Knowlton and Mad Anthony. The Cincinnati Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution owns the 5.17-by-16.77-foot triangle of space on the very corner. The rest of the lot belongs to CSX (formerly the Cincinnati, Hamilton and Dayton Railroad).
In 1916, DAR erected this monument to commemorate the historic spot where Israel Ludlow, the surveyor who planned out Cincinnati, had built a blockhouse in 1791. The monument was constructed from pillars and red sandstone salvaged from the Hamilton County Courthouse that was torn down in 1915. The bronze plaque also notes that Gen. Arthur St. Clair and his army encamped there from Aug. 1 to Sept. 17, 1791, as did Gen. “Mad” Anthony Wayne in 1793.
