Genealogy and SAR – How to Produce Approval Ready Applications and Reduce Turnaround Time

On May 5th, 2023 during our OHSSAR Annual Meeting in Cincinnati, we were treated to a learning session presented by Denise Hall – Senior Genealogist at the National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.

The presentation was to assist chapter representatives who play a role in

1.)New Member Application preparation and

2.)  submitting supplemental applications for existing members.

Submitting applications in the correct format, with the right amount of documentation and explanations results in faster processing time, less back and forth exchange of questions and reduces “Pended” applications (which go back to the author for correction).

Denise prepared a presentation (attached) and walked through it.  There was plenty of time for questions and answers.  The SAR members in attendance were very committed to learning more, understanding the root causes for exceptions and how to best prepare, document and submit applications for consideration.

Many of the questions were for specific issues, however much of the time was spent addressing issues, concerns, tips, techniques and expectations for submission.

We were most appreciative of Denise spending the time to travel to Cincinnati to host this presentation.

Denise shared a clean copy of the presentation as mine was marked up with notes from the session.  The presentation is attached:

Again, thank Denise and the NSSAR team for having her attend.  Very helpful!!

We will also add this presentation to our www.cincinnatisar.org website under the membership section: https://cincinnatisar.org/membership/
