My cousin in South Carolina shared this photo with me on Facebook.
We talk about the commitment of our founding fathers took to establish our great country.
These fifty-six Patriots of the Declaration of Independence, signed a death sentence by pushing away from the most powerful country on the earth at the time.
The tombstone reads:
“By signing the Declaration of Independence” the fifty-six Americans pledged their lives, their fortunes, and their sacred honor.
It was no idle pledge —
Nine signers died of wounds during the Revolutionary War.
Five signers were captured or imprisoned.
Wives and children were killed, jailed, mistreated or left penniless.
Twelve signers’ houses were burned to the ground.
Seventeen lost everything the owned.
No signer defected – their honor like their nation remained intact”
We talk about sacrifice, it is no dramatic than this!
They believed in the future where the citizens ruled. We should never forget that.
Thanks to our founding fathers!
