A significant part of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR) outreach to our great country is our Youth Education efforts.

The goal of these events at area elementary, middle and high schools are to share with students events of the American Revolution. Topics may include: events leading up to and triggering the American Revolution, battles fought, how soldiers and citizens lived and suffered during the war, as well as how the aftermath of the war impacted our nation going forward.
Note that the Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution have a number of topics that they can present to augment a history / civics / social studies curriculum. If your school or educator is seeking some topics which can be presented, our CCSAR Youth Education Committee would be happy to discuss options for your school or organization.
On Wednesday February 7th in multiple sessions over the course of the school day, a number of area SAR members presented topics to Monroe Elementary School.
The SAR participants were: Mike Gunn, Rocky Jackson, Mark Fields and our CCSAR Youth Education Committee Chair – Bob Bowers.
Please note that fellow SAR Compatriot Steve Conrad from the Benjamin Franklin Chapter also was there to participate in the days events. Steve drove from the Columbus area to participate. Extra shout out to Steve!
The SAR team of Mike, Rocky, Steve and Bob each made 4 15-minute presentations to 220 4th graders.
Mark Fields one of our CCSAR active members came as an observer to get a feel of what the CCSAR Youth Education event is like. We hope we did not scare him away!
After the sessions, we had very positive feedback from Melissa Costello, our Monroe Elementary point of contact. If you recall Melissa Costello was our recent Cincinnati, State of Ohio and National SAR Youth Educator of the year. Her feedback is greatly appreciated and valued.
Thanks and gratitude to the:
- members of the SAR who participated in these presentations,
- educators and administrators of the Monroe public schools for permitting us to present,
- special thanks to the students who had open minds to learn more about the founding, struggles and history of our great country.
Until we meet again!
