Wreaths Across America at Cincinnati’s Spring Grove Cemetery

Cincinnati SAR once again participated in WAA partnered with the Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War at Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati, OH. However, in order to comply with the governmental requirements and personal safety dictates there were only 75 wreaths to be placed, face masks worn and social distancing practices to avoid the Corona Virus.

Participants at this event at the Civil War Soldiers Section were:

Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (CCSAR)

General William H Lytle Camp & Dept. of Ohio, SUVCW (Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War)

Sister Anthony O’Connell Auxiliary, Dept. of Ohio & National ASUVCW (Auxiliary to Sons of Union Veterans of the Civil War) (Judy Brown, Barbara Lynch, Wanda Langdon)

Clough Valley Chapter NSDAR (Daughters of the American Revolution)

Team Rubicon

12:00 Noon Bugler Craig Flick, SUVCW played Assembly

Kerry Langdon SUVCW, Emcee who welcomed everyone and asked for Moment of Silence, then with a Call to Colors the Cincinnati Chapter’s Nolan Carson Memorial Color Guard Raised the Colors.

Bob Bowers led the Pledge of Allegiance with Reverend Don Vogel, SUVCW giving an Invocation

Wreaths were then placed for each of our Armed Forces: Army, Marines, Navy, Air Force, Coast Guard, Merchant Marines and POW (or Missing in Action) Veterans. The remaining wreaths placed at separate tombstones with saying that veteran’s name aloud and take a moment to thank them for their service to our country.

Ed Boniwell CCSAR & OHSSAR Chaplain gave a Benediction

The Colors were retired in place then Color Guard fired a three round Musket Salute followed by the playing of Taps while the Guard stood at Mourn Arms.

Elsewhere in the Cemetery at the Revolutionary War Patriots Monument a wreath was placed and the names of the 59 Soldiers were announced by Michael Gunn, Former Cincinnati Chapter President

A Musket Salute to our First Patriots and Veterans of the American Revolution was fired as the 2020 Wreaths Across America Campaign was concluded at Cincinnati’s Spring Grove Cemetery.
