Special Brew – Colonial Yankee Ale – Come One, Come Ye All!

It was just a couple of years ago when Compatriot George Stewart introduced our Cincinnati Chapter to a wicked brew accurately named Colonial Yankee Ale).  George’s brother had reproduced this brew using a Revolutionary War era beer recipe.  George would bring bottles of this brew to our member meetings and many of us took a bottle (or two …) to sample.

Early on, this brew was a hit.  George shared our chapter’s enthusiasm for this brew with his brother.  Fast forward to today, and the world is learning more about this fabulous brew recipe.

WCPO TV will be airing a story about our Colonial Yankee Ale this Monday during their 6:00pm broadcast. This ale was an idea that started two years ago when my little brother, who is a home brewer, brewed the first batch so I could hand out to my chapter membership as an award for being recognized as one of the most active chapters in America. It was a hit and there was a request for more!

We approached MPH Brewery in January about brewing a batch for the general public in advance of our 250th Anniversary. They embraced the idea. After being introduced in May, it is now their #1 seasonal selection at the brewery.

Keith, our WCPO reporter gave it a thumbs up. If you want to sample an ale that our founding fathers drank, this is your opportunity! Out of 6 kegs, only one remains.

We are in discussions about a fall porter selection.

Huzzah to the MPH Brewery in Montgomery, Ohio for taking a chance and having the courage to try something new.

If you get a chance, stop by the MPH Brewery in Montgomery and ask for “Colonial Yankee Ale” by name.  Get there before they run out!
