Revolutionary War Uniforms – History

While searching through the Cincinnati Sons of the American Revolution media files from the past, I came upon this paper (author unknown) which explains the evolution of the soldier and officer uniforms during the Revolutionary War.

Great article, want to share it with our membership and interested parties.

Brooklyn, New York — August 27, 1776

As there was no existing standing army for the now USA, the uniform standards were non-existent.  This article shares the evolution of the uniforms from “come as you are” (my Militia ancestor) to the final standards for “formal attire” adopted later in the conflict.

You may find this useful given you know your lineal ancestors history, where they were from and when they participated in the American Revolutionary War.

Enjoy!  If the author is known, please let me know so you get credit!
