Revolutionary War Rarities – SAR Podcast Series – American Made Weapons of the American Revolution

During the American Revolution weapons used came from varied sources.

Many were military flintlock muskets of British and French origins.

Prior to the Revolutionary War conflict, the British restricted gun and powder manufacturing in the Colonies to provide an extra level of control over the colonists.

That said, there were a number of American Colonialists who manufactured muskets and fowlers either with parts from older guns, or started to fabricate their own parts.

The SAR has a podcast series called Revolutionary War Rarities which I encourage you to subscribe to and receive their periodic podcast broadcasts.

The podcast I am sharing today is titled “American Made Weapons of the American Revolution.

I find this very interesting as one of my patriot ancestors from Connecticut was a prolific gun maker.  His name was Benoni Hills of Litchfield Connecticut.  He had sons who also entered into the trade, Seth, Medad, John and Zimri also having Revolutionary War history.

Previously I posted a blog article about Benoni Hills and my visits to Connecticut to learn more and actually handle muskets produced by this family.
