Friday 11/11/2022, Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (CCSAR) participated in Veterans Day celebrations at Mars Hill Academy in Mason Ohio.
CCSAR participants were Ed Bonniwell, Dan Schmitz, Tim Madden and Bob Bowers
We were invited to attend their assembly as guests. The planned outdoor live-fire musket demonstration was washed out due to the rain. However, we did do a dry-fire musket demo in the gymnasium to approximately 30 students. Following that, each of us discussed our uniforms, our weapons and did a bayonet charge. Huzzah!! There were many questions from the students about our weapons and how battles were waged in those days.
After the assembly, the CCSAR team entered a classroom of 20 students. Ed Bonniwell gave his Yorktown presentation and Bob Bowers presented the Battle of Brooklyn.

Ed Bonniwell Discusses the Battle of Yorktown to Mars Hills Academy Students During Veterans Day Celebration
It was fitting that the Battle of Brooklyn which George Washington lost was the first major conflict of the war. The Battle of Yorktown was viewed as the last major battle of the war. The students received the presentations very well.
In addition, we also had another observer, Rachel Rice Cornish, daughter of CCSAR Compatriot Eugene Rice. She is a John Reily Chapter DAR member and is exploring becoming a presenter for Youth/Adult Ed.
Thanks to the students for their active participation. Thanks to the leadership of Mars Hills Academy for their invitation for us to share the history of the American Revolution.
The Superintendent and Principal were presented with CCSAR Challenge Coins as a thank you.
