The idea of reenacting the Battle of Lochry’s Creek went back to 1976, when the nation began the celebration of its Bicentennial. Members of Col. Archibald Lochry Chapter, NSDAR, had always known about this, Dearborn County’s Revolutionary War battle, and had erected a monument to honor participants over 50 years before near the actual battle site. While the battle was over in minutes, it took five years of planning and a $1500.00 grant from the State of Indiana to stage the event. Members of the Brigade of the American Revolution from several states, led by the Ninth Virginia Regiment and the Westmoreland County Pennsylvania militia planned, choreographed the reenactment with help from several additional Revolutionary reenactment groups. The Ninth Virginia was known for their painstakingly accurate portrayals of the Ohio Indians of the 1700’s. A special militia encampment was set up depicting military life during the Revolution. Many members of the Cincinnati Chapter make the pilgrimage to witness this event. Although they did not participate, they were impressed with what they saw. Many members expressed interest to get involved in future events like this. In August of 2007 both the Ohio Society and the Cincinnati Chapter took part in the 226th Commemoration of Lochry’s Defeat at the Riverview Cemetery in Aurora, Indiana.
