Grave Marking Event – Granville Ohio – Saturday May 4th

As part of the 135th anniversary of the Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution, there was a grave marking ceremony recognizing the lives of five Revolutionary War patriots.

This event was held at the Old Colony Burying Ground in Granville, Ohio on Saturday May 4th.

Five Revolutionary War Patriots were honored during this ceremony including:

  • 2nd Lieutenant Jesse Munson
  • Private Lemuel Rose
  • Fifer Timothy Spelman
  • Private Lewis Sturges
  • Private Samuel Thrall

The event started with Don Miller welcoming all the participants.

Colors (Flags) were presented by the Ohio Society Color Guard led by Bob Hill.

Representatives of the National SAR, Ohio SAR, National DAR and Central District SAR were in attendance, including John L. Dodd, President General of the National SAR.

Lyn Boone, a board member of the “Old Colony Burying Ground” gave welcoming remarks, sharing the history of this sacred place.

A interesting twist was the lowering of the “Grand Union Colors” and the raising of the National Colors.

A musket salute was performed followed by Mourn Arms in honor of those fallen patriots.

This was a wonderful ceremony and a fitting conclusion to the 135th Anniversary Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution.
