Debut of “Yankee Ale” – MPH Brewery in Montgomery – Friday May 23rd

Come join us in the special debut of “Yankee Ale” a brew who’s recipe goes back to the Revolutionary War.

A fine ale is resurrected!

George Stewart’s brother had the long guarded recipe of this brew from the American Revolutionary War period.  George had brought and shared some samples of this brew over the past couple of years.

A wee bit of history on every bottle

George and Scott Freeman worked with MPH Brewery in Montgomery to create some of this fine brew and will have it on tap on Friday May 23rd, waiting for you to come and enjoy it.

Scott Freeman making sure the brew meets our expectations!

More details are below:

The MPH Brewery in Montgomery https://mphbrew.com/  (also known as “Montgomery Public House”) will tap and launch Cincinnati SAR’s “Yankee Ale” on Friday May 23rd.

This is a first-time initiative and a great opportunity for the chapter.  All members, family, and friends are encouraged to come out and support the launch (in uniform or colonial attire if possible).

Please try to arrive by 4:00 pm if possible, or between 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm.  It will become more crowded over that time.

Please contact President Freeman, dsfreeman@fuse.net, if you plan to attend so we know how many to expect.  We’ll try to save some tables.

There will be no formal program, but we will promote the beer and informally engage the public.  You may stay as long as you wish.  They have a full menu and the food is good.

Where:  the brewery is located at 7880 Remington Rd, Cincinnati, OH 45242, just off Montgomery Road, about ½ block north of the original Montgomery Inn.

MPH brewery has become a popular local destination, particularly on Friday evenings this time of year.  Their spring concert series is underway.  They have a large and very nice outdoor patio and deck with shade.  There will be live music on the patio.

Assuming decent weather, there will be a good crowd present including people of all ages.  Children and grandchildren are welcome!   (Parents of young children don’t bring them to Chuckee Cheese or McDonald’s anymore, they bring them out to Craft Breweries)

More Background on the Brew:

Members may recall the colonial era beer recipes brewed for the chapter by George Stewart’s brother, Andy Stewart, in 2022 and 2023.

One of the two beers provided by Andy in bottles in 2023 was the Sons of Liberty Yankee Ale.

Last winter, George Stewart and Scott Freeman met with J.C. Jordan, brewmaster at the MPH Brewery, and convinced him to purchase the ingredients and brew the “Yankee Ale” this spring in commemoration of America 250.

President Freeman sampled the beer directly from the vat on May 16th and gave it the CCSSAR seal of quality and authenticity.  It turned out very well, and those at the brewery are pleased with it.

This first batch of Yankee Ale is expected to be available for a few months for most of the summer.  If it is successful, additional batches and/or additional colonial beers may be brewed through 2026, and we should have the opportunity to schedule one or more fundraisers for the chapter in the future.  But we must show our willingness to come out and promote and support the endeavor.

Come out, show your support for our chapter and enjoy a pint or two!  See you soon!
