On Saturday June 6th, 2026 at 10:00am there will be a monument dedication for Revolutionary War Patriots at the Greenwood Cemetery in Hamilton, OH
This event is co-sponsored by the John Reily Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) and Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR).
There will be a monument dedicated with the names of ten Revolutionary War Patriots who were buried in the Greenwood Cemetery.
Attached is an event flyer for June 6th at Greenwood Cemetery.
May 17th is the 250th Anniversary of one of the most important sermons of the Revolutionary War.
In the Revolutionary era, the pulpit was an important place for the colony’s greater thinkers to advance important values about human liberty.
Forgotten Founding Father, John Witherspoon, stands among the most influential yet often overlooked figures of the American founding era. He was a minister, educator, political leader, and signer of the Declaration of Independence.
John Witherspoon was born on February 5, 1723, in Gifford, Scotland, near Edinburgh. He was raised in a deeply religious Presbyterian family with roots tracing back to the Scottish Reformation. At age 13, he started attending the University of Edinburgh. In 1745, after completing his education, including a master’s in theology, he was ordained as a Presbyterian minister. He quickly gained recognition as a gifted preacher and writer, with sermons that displayed both intellectual rigor and passionate conviction.

SAR was invited to participate in an event in Clermont County on Saturday May 23rd that starts at 12:00 pm. Note this is not an official SAR event, however we were invited to attend.
It is called The Forgotten Soldier Remembered Plaque Dedication – Edenton OH
It is near Stonelick State Park, near the address 6762 OH-727, Pleasant Plain, OH 45162
This event is sponsored by the Wayne Township Trustees and Clermont County Veterans Commission. It is the township’s major America 250 and Memorial Day weekend event.
This is not a SAR or DAR event or grave marking, but a local community event.
A 100-year-old plaque outside the cemetery that was stolen at some point has been remade and will be rededicated.
The plaque honors William Sloan, a Revolutionary War soldier, a bugler for General Anthony Wayne’s Army in 1794, and an early settler in the area. There is a question whether the William Sloan buried in the cemetery (born in 1773 according to the headstone) did all three things (or whether both William Sloan Sr. and Jr. were involved), but that is not at issue here. This is not a SAR or DAR marker, and we had no role in either the original plaque or its replacement.
Scott Freeman will attend to represent our Cincinnati SAR chapter. If you plan on attending, please reach out to Scott Freeman and let him know.
In the end, this will be similar to other recent events (Grassy Run, Ironton High School, Garfield Middle School). Those SAR attendees will represent Cincinnati SAR, engage the public, and have an informal educational presence at the event.
Our limited presence at other events recently has been a significant addition and greatly appreciated by the public. Another opportunity to share knowledge about SAR, the American Revolution and our educational efforts in the community.
Doug Carver and I are planning to attend in uniform or colonial attire, and I will probably set up the canopy and the cannon (which I still have at my house). If we have enough people, it is possible we could post colors or shoot muskets, but I have made no commitment to do so. Color Guard members, if you plan on attending, please let Scott know.
If anyone can join us and participate on Saturday, please let me know ASAP. No need to reply if you are unable.
Tonight will be the welcome home event for 88 veterans who are taking the once in a lifetime trip to Washington DC.
Join us at the WELCOME HOME RALLY!
Celebrate their journey, honor our heroes, and grab some Honor Flight Tri-State gear.
The welcome home event will be at the Greater Cincinnati International Airport on Tuesday May 19th. Plan to arrive at around 8:30PM on Tuesday evening to meet the returning heroes. Note that the time of arrival can vary depending on the return air flight.
Color Guard members are encouraged to wear their period attire, however anyone can come dressed as they like to welcome these patriots home.
Would you like to be a Guardians for a Veteran interested in making the trip?
Every veteran on an Honor Flight journey is accompanied by a trained guardian. While a qualified friend or relative can serve as a guardian for a veteran, many veterans who don’t have someone to go with them are matched with appointed guardians who are thoroughly vetted and specially trained to assist them throughout the trip.
We are grateful that our guardians choose to support the program by covering their own participation fee, making these special journeys possible.
More information about the event can be viewed by the below link:
Come participate and be able to support these men and women who gave a part of their life for our country.
Our Ambassadors
We extend our deepest gratitude to our incredible Ambassadors! Their unwavering dedication and countless hours spent raising funds and organizing events are appreciated. Each year, we are proud to honor their commitment with a special appreciation lunch.
The Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution participated in a chapter Color Guard Patriot Grave Marking event that will be held on Venice Cemetery, 4213 Layhigh Road, Fairfield OH 45014, at 1 pm on Sat. May 9th.
The ceremony honored all patriots buried in Butler County, especially the four buried in Venice Cemetery (and including one who survived the Lochry Massacre in 1781).

Brad Jarard speaks about history of the Revolutionary War to the assembled crowd.
The event got much coverage with an estimated 300 visitors, SAR, DAR participants present. Yes, three-hundred visitors and members.
Great Turnout of the Public for this event!
The graves of many Revolutionary War soldiers who fought to win the country’s independence have gone unmarked or been lost. Our organization goal is to recognize all Revolutionary War Patriots buried in our area.
Story Highlights: History has not been kind to the graves of the soldiers of the American Revolution. Untold veterans who fought for this country’s independence lie in unmarked graves. Some have been lost entirely. But not in Ross Township where a few of these veterans secured land in the early 1800’s and raised their children in land where they crossed with their Captors after the Massacre on the Ohio River near the mouth of the Great Miami River in 1782.
There were multiple organizations present, many published photos on their social media pages. A few are captured below:
This event became front-page news on the Ross High School Band Website. A photo of their fife and drum player with our Sons of the American Revolution – Color Guard celebrating the event.
Possibly aside from national events at a battlefield site, with all the elements, it was the largest and best grave marking and monument dedication event our chapter has been involved with. There was a tremendous local and public attendance and participation, and the most descendants present.
Mike Gunn of the Cincinnati Chapter of the SAR was the Emcee for the event.
Brad Jarard of the Cincinnati Chapter of the SAR gave a historical presentation which the crowd provided much enthusiasm.

It was gratifying so see the newly acquired cannon fired in public for the first time after eight months of repair, restoration, procurement of supplies and material needed, testing, training, and acquisition of insurance.
A video of the cannon firing is below:
Included is a copy of the program as it existed on the day of the event and a copy of the Letter of Recognition from the Ohio General Assembly given to the Cincinnati Chapter by Representative Jennifer Gross of House District 45.
The event was highlighted by cannon firing, timed in sequence by a helicopter flyover. Pretty awesome!
Our Color Guard did a musket salute and performed admirably.
Gregg Ballman performed a remembrance for those heroes who are Missing In Action. This is a very moving experience. A video is below:
Muskets at rest!
There were many ceremonial wreaths placed at the monument:
This was a terrific event with outstanding participation by the SAR, DAR and many community leaders, descendants of these honored patriots. The outpouring of support by the public was an awesome contribution for this event.

Thomas Hankins provided a brief update on the improvements and future plans for the fort construction in 2027 and 2028.

This is a big event with many state and public officials, the Ohio National Guard, Ohio 250th America Commission, Ohio History Connection, SAR, DAR, and other veteran and public groups. Come early for parking and practice. The Ohio National Guard ONG will be combined with the SAR Color Guard.

Here are some pictures of the new monument and benches in place.
The new flagpoles will be set next week.
Color Guard or Honor Guard you need to be there by 11:30am because we have a lot to go over. If you plan to be in the Honor Guard and fire a musket you must have 3 cartridges for the musket salute.
The procession to the Tomb will be no different than what we normally do at the July Memorial Service.
The procession will be led by an SAR Fifer and Drummer to and from the Tomb. This ceremony will be a little different in that there will be no official greetings that we usually have.
This ceremony is officially governed by the Ohio Historical Society with help and guidance from the SAR.
There will only be one wreath presented and Governor DeWine and Brigadier General Woodruff will do those honors.
There will be 2 Ohio Army National Guard members in the front row of the Color Guard and 5 Ohio Army National Guard members participating as riflemen in the Honor Guard.
This has been a project that has taken a year and a half to accomplish and as a Co-Chair of the project team I am extremely proud of what we have accomplished. Without the monies designated to this project by the Ohio Legislature it would never have been accomplished.
This has been an opportunity of a lifetime and I’m glad we are able to finish this project in time to celebrate this nation’s 250th founding. OHC (Ohio Historical Committee?) plans to start building the fort in 2027 and be completed by 2028 in order to celebrate its original construction.
We at SAR sincerely encourage everyone to call, email, snail mail OHC to construct the east wall so the fort is totally enclosed. OHC hasn’t decided if it will build that wall or not. In our opinion it should be built to block out I-77.
Please put this on your calendar and arrange to participate. It will be a special event!
There will be a “tapping event” for the 2026 edition of “Monty Liberty”, an authentic Colonial Style Ale (brewed in collaboration with the Cincinnati Chapter Sons of the American Revolution) on May 15th at MPH Brewery.
Pints of the ale are $1 off from 6 – 8 pm. Half priced appetizers until 6:00 pm.
Show up any time you like and stay as long as you please. The purpose is to support the launch of our brew and to remind the public, it is America 250th Birthday.
This is not a fundraiser, just the launch. We may hold a fundraiser at the brewery like last year later on.
There may be a short “tapping” ceremony at some point, but this is mostly a social event, and the beer will probably be available prior to that.
As usual, uniforms and Colonial Attire are encouraged but never required.
Last year’s version was launched about this time as a seasonal offering and proved to be one the brewery’s most popular beers over the summer. When told what it was, almost everyone wanted to try a Colonial Style Ale, and those that did like it. It was sold out by early August.
MPH (Montgomery Public House) is a family friendly local establishment with a wood fired oven and great food.
Stop down! Enjoy a brew, some great food and excellent company!
