Ever wonder how our divine savior decides which prayer is answered during a conflict?
I located this clip in a stack of materials I have been saving and thought it might be appropriate as history for the American Revolution and other conflicts.
The story behind this prayer is purported to have occurred during a recruiting effort during the American Revolution. If someone knows the source and can share I will update this post accordingly.
The person leading the prayer was asked to start the meeting off with a few words.
The end of the prayer was the most influential, it is:
“We beseech thee mercifully to give us victory, yet not ours buy thy blessed will be done. And, oh Lord God of the Universe, if thou are unwilling by divine Grace to assist us, do stand aside and let us fight it out by ourselves. Amen.”
Well …. that answers the question of how when both sides ask for the Lords assistance, these conflicting prayers may be answered.
Amen ……
