Youth Education Event – Mason Middle School – Thurs. Nov 20th

On Thursday November 20th, 2025, members of the Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution participated in a “Living History” event at Mason Middle School.

The Eighth Grade Social Studies Department invited our team in to to a series of presentations about Revolutionary War History.  The majority of our team wore historically correct military uniforms of the day.

We were honored to have the opportunity to speak to students and faculty to share our love of and knowledge of the history of that time period which were the seeds of the creation of our great country and freedoms we enjoy today.

We had eight presenters at this event.  There was a series of presentations both in the morning and afternoon sessions, with the CCSAR team splitting the presentations.  Each presenter had about 180 students over the course of the morning and afternoon sessions.  Overall, about 840 students had the opportunity to see the presentations.

The CCSAR presenters each had a Revolutionary War topic to present to the students.  The students were encouraged to ask question and we were pleased with their level of interest and participation.

The presentation topics included:

Morning Presentations:

  • George Stewart – “Revolutionary War Myths and Interesting Facts”
  • Dr. Edward Bonniwell – “The Battle of Yorktown”
  • Dr. Michael Gunn – “Late 18th Century Artifacts – approved in advance”
  • Stephen McClanahan – “Nathaniel Greene, Forgotten Hero & Youngest Brig. General”

Afternoon Presentations:

  • Bob Hill – “Lead-up & Causes to the Amer. Rev., Creation of Continental Army, et.”
  • Steve Conrad – “Life of Mad Anthony Wayne”
  • Rocky Jackson – “Life of Joseph Warren”
  • Vince McGeehan – “Young George Washington”

One of the topics presented was the history of “The Battle of Yorktown”.  Another focused on the “Myths and Interesting Oddities of the Revolutionary War”.  Our presenters know the subjects very well and are ready for questions from the audience.

The following CCSAR team members participated in this event:

  • Bob Hill – Hocking Valley Chapter
  • Steve Conrad – Hocking Valley Chapter
  • George Stewart
  • Mike Gunn

We were grateful for the opportunity to participate.

Until next year!
