On Tuesday May 3rd, the Cincinnati Chapter of the Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution (CCSAR) met to host the 2022 Youth Awards Dinner at the Montgomery Inn in downtown Montgomery.

Driven by the words of Benjamin Franklin “Tell me and I forget, teach me and I remember, and involve me and I learn”

This event has been postponed for the past couple of years due to pandemic concerns.  The CCSAR is excited to restore this terrific event where we identify and reward youth and youth educators for exemplary efforts to promote Patriotism.

The banquet honored the winners of six contests promoting knowledge of the American
Revolution.

Many of the winners will also compete in the State of Ohio contest and from there to the Nationals.  We will update you on ongoing success of these students and educator.

At the Elementary School level each participant rendered an original poster depicting an event of the American Revolution. No photos, magazine cutouts or other such media are permitted.  Over 300 posters were submitted for evaluation and selection as the award winner.

At the Middle School level each participant submitted an 8 ½ x 11 tri-fold brochure discussing either The Articles of Confederation, The Declaration of Independence, The US Constitution, The Bill of Rights or The Federalist Papers.

At the High School level, the participation includes an Essay Contest and an Eagle Scout contest.
• The Essay Contest requires writing a strictly formatted paper between 800 and 1200 words on a topic of their choosing including footnotes and a bibliography . Essays are judged equally on the following criteria: historical accuracy, clarity of thought, organization and proven topic, grammar and spelling, and documentation.

• The Eagle Scout contest rates a Scout’s leadership qualities, community involvement, scholastics, merit badges and several other key parameters. He/she must also develop a 4-generation ancestral chart and write a short essay.

Ethan Zied was our Eagle Scout winner!

The Enhanced Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps contest is limited to members of JROTC programs that must be in the top 10% of their JROTC Unit as verified by the Senior Military Instructor and, must be in the top 25% of their high school class.

The Cadet must complete an original essay, of 500 to 700 words on “How JROTC has
prepared me to be a better citizen of the United States of America”. The Cadet must be recommended by the high school principal and Senior Military Instructor.

The American History Teacher contest requirements are so numerous and demanding that they cannot be summarized here. Let’s just say that anyone winning this contest is an extraordinary qualified individual extremely dedicated to teaching American History.

Tisha Grote was our 2022 winner of the American History Teacher contest!  Tisha has an incredible list of accomplishments and we are so grateful to having her teach our young adults learn about American History.

Thanks to all the participants who contributed to this event.  Lots of hard work was done by students and educators.  We appreciate all of you and believe our country is in better hands knowing these students are learning the history of our great free country.

Thanks also to the SAR members who took the time to review each of the projects submitted and identified the best of the best.  Many painstaking hours were invested in reviewing these projects.

Last but not least, we thank the parents and educators for their unsung efforts to guide and mentor these students and encourage them to reach and challenge their understanding of our Nations past.  Understanding that past and why it is important, is critical as we move forward as a people and nation.
