Wreaths Across America – Spring Grove Cemetery – Sat. Dec. 13

On a snowy Saturday morning on December 13th the brave, courageous and fit attended the Wreaths Across America Ceremony in Spring Grove Cemetery.  Due to the inclement weather, the event started a bit early to try to beat the snowy forecast.

Neither snow nor cold could stop the Cincinnati SAR Color Guard from performing their duties for this event

The Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution were there many in Revolutionary War period military attire to act as the Color Guard and Flag Posting.

Separately, the SAR members visited the Revolutionary War Patriots Monument in the cemetery in Spring Grove Cemetery and placed a wreath on that site.

The heavy snowy weather prevented a musket salute as the Color Guard was not able to “keep their powder dry”.

This year there were almost 1,000 wreaths donated with enough to cover all the Civil War Graves in Section 21 of the cemetery.  This is apparently a record with a late donation of a significant number of wreaths made it possible to cover all the Civil War graves with some to spare.

The following members of the Cincinnati Chapter of the SAR were present at the event:

In uniform:

  • Clay Crandall
  • Michael Gunn
  • Gregg Ballman
  • Scott Freeman
  • Stephen McClanahan
  • Ed Bonniwell

In civilian dress:

  • Ken Burck

Ken Burck presented one of the armed forces wreaths (Merchant Marines).

Every one was bundled up in winter clothing so we hope we identified all SAR members who participated.

Another fantastic ceremony and terrific event!
