Participants in Flag Retirement
This is a formal event which oversees the destruction of old tired tattered US flags of any era. There is a specific protocol to dispose of a US Flag which is followed on this day.
The preferred way to dispose of these flags is by burning them. This flag burning is highly supervised and very choreographed. Members of the various organizations as well as the general public are encouraged to grab a flag or two from those deposited to be placed onto an open flame and burned thoroughly.
The Cincinnati Chapter Sons of the American Revolution Color Guard assisted in posting colors and executed a single volley musket discharge to commemorate the days events.
Upon conclusion, the participants reassembled to meet at the parade and water ceremony at the Anderson Ferry location on the Ohio side of the Ohio River.
