If you have not attended an Honor Flight welcome home event, you have missed a really heart warming celebration.
Coming up on Tuesday September 12th and Tuesday October 17th there will be honor flights for veterans to DC to visit the veterans memorials.
The expected arrival at the Cincinnati Airport (CVG) of the flight home from DC is about 9:00PM. We encourage you to get there early as we like to take a group photo of all of our participants.
Walk into the main terminal and take the stairs down to the greeting area. Trust me, you will not be able to miss the crowd of welcoming well wishers. You can park in the CVG terminal parking.
Various members of SAR (Cincinnati and Northern Kentucky), DAR and CAR gather to welcome home those veterans to have made the trip.
There are other veterans, active service members, members of the media, civic groups and hopefully some live music to entertain us while we wait patiently for these veterans to return.
I was told that participating in this event was an eye watering event. After attending my first homecoming I can confirm that it is heartwarming to see these veterans, many in wheel chairs with their sponsors coming from the planes. Many of these veterans are surveying the crowds, looking for their friends and family who have come to welcome them home. The veterans and their sponsors have tears of pride, joy and sadness for those who have been lost as well as happiness of those who are welcoming them home.
Simply awesome!
As you participate and witness this event, if your eyes don’t well up and your chest get tight with emotion, you are not human.
Really an awesome experience!
Come join us on Tuesday 9/12 or Tuesday 10/17 to see this for yourself.
The SAR/DAR/CAR participants can be there in period attire or street clothes.
If you have any questions, please reach out for any tips on how to participate.
See you there! You will not be disappointed!!
