The Cincinnati Chapter had six members attend the SAR National Congress at the Mohegan Sun Resort, on the Mohegan reservation, in Uncasville, CT on July 12th-18th..
Personally attending this event was a significant and much appreciated contribution to the efforts of the Cincinnati Chapter to support the overall direction of the National SAR organization. Our chapter is grateful to these members for their loyalty and dedication to SAR.
The following Cincinnati Chapter Members attended the Congress and were registered as Ohio Society delegates:

Youth Award Winner – National, State and Cincinnati Chapter Award Winner
It was a great thrill for the Cincinnati Chapter winner of the George S. & Stella M. Knight Essay Contest, Joel Healy, a (past school year) junior at Wyoming High School in Cincinnati, to receive the first-place essay award nationally.
Joel and his parents attended the Youth Awards Luncheon at the National Congress on July 15th , where he read his winning essay and was presented with his first place National Award.
Including the chapter, state society, and national first place awards, Joel received a total of $7,400 in cash awards plus a free trip for him and his parents to attend the National Congress Youth Awards Luncheon.
Cincinnati Chapter Awards presented at National Congress
At the Congress, Cincinnati Chapter President Scott Freeman was honored to accept three major first place awards on behalf of the Cincinnati Chapter from the National Society SAR President General, Darryl Addington.
These awards were received in the “Large Chapter Category”, which includes chapters with more than 200 members.
These three awards are:
- the Ohanesian Award (for the most Youth Education presentations in schools),
- the USS Stark Memorial Award (for providing the most service to veterans), and
- the Liberty Bell Americanism Award (for the best best implementation of SAR programs and principles in service to the public).
