Your Help Is Greatly Needed – Honor Our Heroes with Us
The Simon Kenton Chapter has two major Patriot Grave Marking Services (PGMS) coming up this September and October, and we earnestly request your participation.
Your service—whether as a member of the color guard, rifle squad, musician, or in another ceremonial role—would be an honor and a vital contribution to preserving and celebrating our shared history.
First Grave Marking Event – Sharon Cemetery, Augusta, KY, September 13, 2025 (See attached flyer)
Sharon Cemetery Flyer Version_3 01192025
This solemn and historic event will honor six Revolutionary War Patriots (five of whom will count toward the SAR Grave Marking Medal). Their descendants are traveling from across the country—Nevada, Massachusetts, Michigan, Ohio, Missouri, Indiana, etc. —to be present for this momentous occasion.
Among the patriots is William Harrod, the brother of James Harrod, founder of Harrodstown, later Harrodsburg. William died in 1801 and his legacy, like that of the others, deserves a tribute worthy of his service.
Two of the honored patriots served at Valley Forge, and the Society of the Descendants of Valley Forge will be in attendance to pay tribute. We also expect Nick and Nina Clooney, parents of George Clooney to attend. I can’t guarantee that George and Amal Clooney may be present!
As an added bonus, afterwards, a short drive will take you to the beautiful riverside town of Augusta where they will be having “Swingtime by the River”. Details are shown in the flyer. The flier has the wrong date, it is the 13th!

Correct date is September 13th!
Second Grave Marking – Sand Run Baptist Church Cemetery, Hebron, KY, October 18, 2025 (See attached flyer)

We will have a Patriot Grave Marking Service in Honor of Three Revolutionary War Patriots and dedicate a Pomeroy Foundation Patriot Burial Marker, a permanent symbol recognizing the presence and sacrifice of these patriots within the community.
If you would like to experience a Patriot Grave Marking event, take the time to participate either as a member of the Color Guard, or as a guest.
