On Tuesday evening at the Greater Cincinnati Airport (CVG), there were many, many people awaiting the return of Veterans who got to take a ride of a lifetime.
A heroes welcome!
Multiple times during the year, there are flights sponsored from CVG to Washington DC. These flights contain veterans and their sponsors who travel from early morning, returning around 9:00PM. That is a long day!

The Veterans Parade Begins!
Even more so than the road weary travel is the emotional tug as these Veterans embark on this trip to visit their respective war service memorial. It may have been a friend, a family member or someone they respected and admired.
A Veteran Shows His Respect for the Crowd
To participate, Veterans must apply and there is a wait list. Sign up early to make sure you get a seat on an upcoming event. You can bring a friend or family member to accompany you for companionship or help in getting around.

There are licensed medical professionals on the flight and on the ground in case of emergencies.

The Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (CCSAR/SAR) participated in the event. Compatriots Bob Bowers, Mike Blum, George Stewart and President Scott Freeman were there to welcome home these Veterans who have served our country.

Having participated in previous events, seeing these Veterans smile, many with tears of happiness or sadness in their eyes is worth attending. Having family and friends there to greet them, watching these Veterans peer through the crowd, looking for that special person or group is very inspiring.

Note that there were other SAR groups in attendance, including those from the Northern Kentucky chapter. In addition, there were Daughters of the American Revolution in attendance as well. Many of the SAR/DAR participants were in attire of the 1770’s.
