History Teacher of the Year – 1st Place Cincinnati, Ohio and National – Melissa Costello

Its official!

Melissa Costello of Monroe Elementary School placed 1st Nationally in the Sons of the American Revolution.  Ms Costello placed first in the Cincinnati SAR competition, then first place in the Ohio Society SAR contest.  From there, Ms. Costello competed against all the US SAR chapters and took home the gold!

Cincinnati SAR was so proud of her accomplishments.  Ms. Costello lives and breathes all things history and is a proponent of teaching her students about the founding of our great country.

Below is an excerpt from a news release published by the Monroe School Board announcing Melissa Costello’s award.  The SAR would like to also celebrate the Monroe School District for participating in the SAR Youth Awards Program.

MONROE, OHIO – For the first time ever, the Ohio Society of the Sons of the American Revolution has named an elementary educator as the recipient of its Dr. Tom & Betty Lawrence American History Teacher Award.

In May, Monroe Elementary Gifted Intervention Specialist Melissa Costello was invited to the Peterloon Emery Estate in Indian Hill where she was announced as the 2023 Cincinnati Chapter and Ohio State Society SAR Elementary School American History Teacher of the Year. The President General of the National SAR presented her with the awards.
