Cherokee Elementary School – SAR Youth Education – April 29th, 2025

The Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution has an incredibly active and successful Youth Education program.  The goal is to create a visual learning experience for students to learn more about the history of the Revolutionary War era.

Our presenters wear period military uniforms which their lineal ancestors wore during the 1770’s.  Makes a very visual impression on the students.

On April 29, 2025  with the Cincinnati Chapter SAR Youth Education Committee arrived at the Cherokee Elementary School and presented a Revolutionary War Era History experience for these Elementary School students.

The Cincinnati SAR Youth Education team was led by Michael Gunn, Bob Bowers, Ed Bonniwell, George Stewart, & Vince McGeehan.

The SAR group presented to more than 180 4th grade students.  There was a 30 minute introduction where the SAR members told the students about their patriot ancestor, the branch of the military their ancestor served in, explanations of the uniform types and differences.

From there the students were broken into three rotating groups where three distinct topics were presented.  These three presentations took about 90 minutes.

These students were already familiar with the French & Indian war as well as the Revolutionary War, so the questions were more challenging than we normally experience.

Our team loves it when the students ask questions and we are glad to answer whatever comes our way.  It shows that they are engaged and interested in what we are sharing.  Very rewarding!!

Overall a great day of sharing the history of our fascinating country’s origins.

Thanks to the attentive students, the support of our programs

by the teachers and administration.

Looking forward to next year!
