Cemetery Clean Up & Grave Marking – Wesleyan Cemetery – Joint DAR / SAR Event – Sat. 10/4

The DAR Cincinnati Chapter is hosting a cleanup day and Veteran grave marking at Wesleyan Cemetery in Northside.  Cincinnati Chapter SAR will partner in this event.

When:  Saturday Oct 4, 11am-2pm

Where:  WESLEYAN CEMETERY, 4003 Colerain Ave, (Northside), Cincinnati, OH  45223

Goals of the joint effort:

1) Using the Hamilton County Genealogical Society’s indexes of military Veterans buried at Wesleyan  (includes specific locations), find each Veteran.  Data, organized by section, will be distributed to people.

  • Weed wack and leaf blow off each Veteran stone.
  • Clean each stone with water and soft nylon blush, if needed (letters & numbers are not legible)
  • Mark with a flag (have not sourced flags yet), say the name aloud and thank them for their service.
  • In Find A Grave app, add a GPS tag to each memorial / grave.  Add a photograph, if it’s not already present.
  • If no stone is present, then we will make notes and work towards getting grants for missing markers.

2) Cemetery entrance sign needs to be restored and painted.

3) Litter pick up along fence at Colerain Avenue.

SAR members, if you can participate, please reach out to George Stewart who is coordination the SAR effort with DAR.
