Upcoming Event – Patriots Day – April 23rd, 2023 – Spring Grove Cemetery

At 2:00 PM on April 23rd, 2023 there will be a re-dedication of the Revolutionary War Soldier’s Memorial at the Spring Grove Cemetery.

Memorial Placed for Revolutionary War Patriots in Spring Grove Cemetery

The Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will host this event.  All groups with interests of honoring these fallen Patriots are welcome to attend.

This memorial honors 58 known Revolutionary War Patriots who are buried here in the beautiful and serene grounds of the Spring Grove Cemetery & Arboretum.

Entrance to Spring Grove Cemetery in Cincinnati Ohio

We encourage you to drive through the Cemetery before or after the ceremony to take in the amazing park like setting, the extensive collection of trees and bushes (hence the “Arboretum” recognition) and the amazing diversity of markers and tributes to those fallen.

This cemetery which was opened in the 1840’s was a result of local residents seeking to create a memorial park which rivaled those around the world.  It is truly a Cincinnati and world class treasure.

We will have the Cincinnati Chapter Sons of the American Revolution – Nolan Carson Color guard dressed in Revolutionary soldiers uniforms honoring these fallen Patriots.

There will be a short ceremony, opened with a presentation of colors (flag presentation), the pledge of allegiance, welcome opening statements, with recognition of each of the 58 patriots along with the ceremonial chiming of a bell for each.

Followed by placing of wreaths to commemorate area Sons, Daughters and Children of the American Revolution organizations.

The Color Guard will conclude the event with a Flintlock (aka “Firelock”) musket salute to honor the fallen.

Musket Salute at a Previous Event

“We, the members of the Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution re-dedicate this marked Memorial to the glory of God and in the recognition of the memory of these honorable Patriots of the American Revolution”

More details will be shared as we get closer to the event.

This event will also be on the Cincinnati SAR Calendar which can be found at: https://cincinnatisar.org/meetingsevents/

New Format for Monthly General Member Meetings – including the “Speakers Series”

Recently, the Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution began to add monthly speakers forever referred to as the “Speaker Series”.

The goal is to provide our members who attend a better experience.

The objective of the selection of speakers is to find topics which will be interesting and have a historical / patriotic content to our meetings.

We plan on making the business meeting part of our sessions shorter and more succinct to allow for time for speakers / presenters.

If you have ideas for topics and/or speakers who would be interesting and be in harmony with our mission, please reach out to President George Stewart or any of the chapter leadership.

At our last meeting, we had a speaker present “What is required to qualify and prepare to become a US Citizen?”  It was excellent with many questions and discussions.

See the blog article with this link:  https://cincinnatisar.org/presenter-series-the-naturalization-process-what-is-involved-to-gain-us-citizenship/

Watch the chapter calendar and this blog for upcoming events to learn more.

I can share from experience, that your membership value will improve the more active you become.  We welcome you to participate!

Besides, who can argue with the opportunity to eat Montgomery Inn cuisine before the meeting (5:30-7:00)?

See you soon!
