Adding A Bit of Boom To Our SAR Presentations and Events

Boom!

Back in late summer the Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution was gifted a replica Revolutionary War cannon.

Proud to display the completed cannon at a recent CCSAR event

One of our members had this cannon for many years.  It was clear that the cannon was not operational when we received and needed restoration and preparation to make it functional.

We are proud to report that the cannon has been adopted by our leadership team and rebuilding / restoration of the cannon to its original pristine state is completed.

We are grateful to Brad Jarard and Scott Freeman for picking up the cannon and completing the repair work.  Cleaning, re-boring, rebuilding the carriage and adding / obtaining the period correct accoutrements for operation and display was very time consuming.  Our chapter is grateful for their efforts.

At this point, our chapter is pursuing “Cannon firing” training & certification which is required for safe operation.  Please note that for all our SAR events where we fire muskets, or in this case a cannon, the charges are blanks and there are no projectiles.  We take special attention to safety protocols and are very careful.

Our hopes have been dashed a bit as we are trying to work through confirming access to liability coverage on either the OHSSAR or NSSAR insurance policies.  Rest assured we will not operate until this is resolved.

Unfortunately, until this is resolved, the cannon will remain silent.

At a minimum, we will be able to display the completed cannon and have available for selected events.

Thanks again to our Donor, and special thanks to Brad and Scott for their hard work in restoring the cannon to its former glory!

Huzzah!
