Washington Park – Honoring Five Revolutionary War Patriots – Sat. Nov. 8th, 2025

On Saturday morning at 10:00AM, there was a ceremony at Washington Park in downtown Cincinnati.

The event was to dedicate the memory of five Revolutionary War Patriots who were buried in the current park.  Back in the 1800’s, Washington Park was the site of two local cemeteries.  Now the location is a beautiful park.

The Sons of the American Revolution installed a granite marker commemorating the Revolutionary War Patriots who are buried in this area.  This monument was placed by the SAR to honor the over 150 Patriots buried in the Hamilton County area including Washington Park.

On this day, the following Revolutionary War Patriots were recognized and honored:

  • Seward, Daniel (1758-1794) Minuteman in NJ Militia 287312
  • Shipman, John (1760-1834) Rev. & Indian Wars PA 289243
  • Smith, Philip D. (1759-1837) “ in Ger. Regt, MD  292866
  • Smith, Abram, Sr. (1735-1808) NJ Militia  333879
  • Stacy, Thomas (1755-1837) Fayette Co., PA  295755

The Emcee for the event was Dr. Michael Gunn.

The National Anthem was sung by David Freeman.

The Posting of the Flags (Colors) was performed by the combine members of the Color Guard including members of the Cincinnati Nolan Carson Color Guard.  The Color Guard was led by Jason Bourgeois.

Cincinnati Sons of the American Revolution President Scott Freeman shared a special Veterans Day presentation and message.

Additionally, Nathan Chester – 2nd VP – CCSAR shared a Revolutionary War history presentation.

Monica Mohlenkamp – Regent of the Cincinnati DAR chapter welcomed the SAR, DAR and members of the public to the days events.

Gary Duffield revealed the granite monument commemorating the Revolutionary War Patriots.

Gregg Ballman led the effort to individually recognize each of the five Patriots honored today.

Representatives of the various SAR, DAR and other civic groups presented ceremonial wreaths at the base of the granite monument.

The combined Color Guard performed a Flintlock Musket salute followed by a ceremonial mourn arms pose.

The event was concluded by Douglas Carver playing taps as the Color Guard retired the flags (Colors).
