Several speakers shared the details of Major General Anthony Wayne’s military experience at the Battle of Fallen Timbers through the Fort Defiance conflict and into the Signing of the Treaty of Greenville, OH.

On Saturday August 24th, we participated in the dedication of the impressive memorial by the Northwest Territory Chapter SAR (NTSAR) on the banks of the Maumee River near the Ft. Defiance Burial Grounds in downtown Defiance, OH.

The ceremony began with the Ohio Society Composite Color Guard led by OHSSAR Commander Bob Hill, with Fife Music by Scott Giltner, posting the Colors.

The Emcee for the event was David Lupien, 1st VP, NTSAR who called for all to rise for an Invocation; the National Anthem led by Jack Bredenfoerder, President of the Germany Society, the Pledge to our flag and the SAR Pledge.

After additional presentations detailing prominent historical experiences, more focus on the actions, welcome to then event by Defiance Mayor and discussion of the leadership of General Wayne the Monument was unveiled, accompanied by more fife music, presentation of 20 wreaths and Military Honors by the Color Guard.
All in all a very heart warming and respectful dedication of a man who was a true patriot.
