On Saturday February 15th, on a drizzly day the Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (CCSAR) participated in a special President’s Day luncheon hosted by the Cincinnati Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR). Members of the Children of the American Revolution (CAR) also participated.

This has been a very successful event for the DAR and was held at the beautiful Cincinnati Woman’s Club in west Cincinnati.

The Nolan Carson Memorial Color Guard led by Commander Jason Bourgeois started the event by posting colors. This was followed by the Pledge of Allegiance and the Invocation & Blessing.

The Cincinnati DAR Regent – Monica Mohlenkamp opened the event with greetings.

Cincinnati SAR President D Scott Freeman spoke to the attendees and shared a story about his experiences in the DC area military bases and the ties to George Washington.

This was followed by Riley Wilkerson, President of the Ohio Society of the Children of the American Revolution.

The food and dessert was excellent and there was much discussion and laughter from the tables present.

The guest speaker for the event was Jinny Powers Berten, author of the historical fiction book “By His Side” which portrays the life and bond of William Lee “ who was a faithful and lifelong servant of General George Washington.
Jinny is also a member of the Cincinnati Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Jinny shared many insights into the life of William Lee and his special relationship with General Washington.

Riley Wilkerson presented the information on the Children of the American Revolutions project, spoke about the organization activities and thanked the DAR and SAR chapters for their support and guidance to their mission.

There were historical boards on display celebrating America’s 250th birthday, history of the time period, as well as life size cutouts of America’s most famous founding fathers.

The Cincinnati SAR Color Guard closed out the session by retiring the flags / colors. No chandeliers were damaged as a result.
