For those attending the 2024 SAR Congress in Lancaster PA this July 16th, or simply interested in a historic road trip, there is a special event a couple of hours south of Lancaster in Fairfax County VA.

Subject: [SAR-Officer] Fairfax Resolves National SAR 250th Event
Invitation – you are cordially invited to the 250th Anniversary of the Fairfax Resolves. This is one of two national SAR 250th events this year. The SAR President General and other national officers will be in attendance. Registration is now open. The celebration will take place from July 18-20, located just a two-hour drive south to Fairfax County, Virginia, after the 2024 SAR Congress concludes in Lancaster, PA on July 16.

Make plans now to attend some or all of the activities following Congress.
The primary SAR 250th event will take place at Historic Pohick Church on Thursday, July 18th, at 3pm. This is the home church of George Washington and George Mason, built in 1774, the year the resolves were signed.
Additional commemorative events will be held at George Mason’s Gunston Hall, George Washington’s Mount Vernon, Historic Christ Church and Market Square in Old Town Alexandria where the resolves were signed. The city of Alexandria will host its 250th event which will include the unveiling of a Fairfax Resolves Road to Revolution plaque near Market Square.
Dining events – include meals at the Mount Vernon Inn and Historic Gadsby’s Tavern, where Washington’s birthday ball and Jefferson’s inaugural banquet was held. The President General will host a reception at the Duvall House, where Washington was celebrated in December 1783, upon his return from the Revolutionary War. We will also enjoy a special Fairfax Resolves 250 craft brew and luncheon buffet at a local craft brewery.
Entertainment – will include historical interpreters for signers George Washington, George Mason, Rev. Lee Massey and John Carlyle, a performance by the Old Guard Fife & Drum, a walking tour of Revolutionary Alexandria and a tour of the Tall Ship Providence, the Continental Navy ship commanded by John Paul Jones.

Limited Capacity – please book early – note that there is limited capacity for all Fairfax Resolves 250 paid events and for the hotel room block at the group rate. All paid events will be filled on a first come, first served basis, so take an opportunity to register at your earliest convenience. We do have an option to increase the room block at the hotel, so let us know if you experience any issues with registration.
