On Wednesday, May 7th, at the Montgomery Inn in downtown Montgomery, we held our monthly membership meeting.
On the meeting agenda was New Member Introductions, Youth Award Medals, a Gold 250th medal and Chapter and Individual Awards from the May 3rd OHHSAR annual meeting in Dayton.
As part of our Chapter Knowledge Exchange – featured at each of our meetings, we had a terrific presentation by Michael Gunn – the subject was the “Patriots of Color in the Revolutionary War”. This presentation was eye opening as it discussed the participation of troops and contributors of color during the American Revolutionary War. Also significant was Mike’s account of the number of these Patriots of Color who have been buried in Ohio and the Cincinnati area. Very well done! Wow, very informative! Would be an interesting presentation to folks in area school history classes and the Freedom Center.
On the new member front, our newest member is Marvin Joseph Mohlenkamp, Jr. who is the father of the Cincinnati Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) Monica Mohlenkamp. Mr. Mohlenkamp shared the history of his family and lineage back to his patriot ancestor in the American Revolutionary War. The pride and level of detail he shared was inspiring. Welcome aboard!
