On Saturday, May 25, 2019 six members of the Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution were in attendance at the first day of the Spirit of Vincennes Rendezvous in Vincennes, IN to celebrate the capture of Fort Sackville in 1779. The SAR memorializes this historically important victory over the British, who intended to take control of the area west of the Appalachian Mts. to the Mississippi River with the help of Indian tribes in this region.

During the two day Rendezvous, events are ongoing continually both days. At 11:00 AM on Saturday a special annual ceremony takes place at the large George Rogers Clark Monument on the National Park grounds, where wreaths are laid celebrating the 240th anniversary of Clark’s capture of the fort. Participating from Cincinnati SAR were: Chapter President Turner Lee Wilkerson, past Presidents Jack Bredenfoerder & Mike Gunn, Color Guard Commander Shaun Smith, Bob Bowers and Brad Jarard. Also there from Ohio was Vice President of the Central District SAR Timothy E. Ward, Ohio Society President L. Steven Hinson and Ohio Society Color Guard Commander Steve Frash.

Also attending from Cincinnati were Christine & Macey Smith and Carole Gunn.

The ceremony is conducted by the Indiana Society of SAR in coordination with National Park Service, represented by Frank W. Doughman, Superintendent. This was the fourth year Cincinnati was represented at this historically important Memorial Day event.
