On Sunday, February 18 th this year the Cincinnati Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution (CCSAR) hosted a Luncheon to honor President’s Day and elected to focus on our first President of the United States of America. The ceremonies were opened by Chapter President John H. Bredenfoerder. He then ordered acting commander of the Nolan Carson Memorial Color Guard, Bradley Jarard to post the colors. Nine members of the Color Guard then posted while the Pledge of Allegiance and National Anthem were presented by attendees. He then introduced distinguished guests and led us in the pledge to the SAR.
This was followed by the pleasure of inducting two new members into the CCSAR and awarding supplemental memberships to five of our members.
Also part of the celebration was a more somber rendition by Colonel Donald C. McGraw (Ret’d.) and sitting Ohio Society SAR President of a MIA POW Remembrance. Twas a very moving reminder of our veterans who have yet to be returned, and not to ever be forgotten.
We then had a tasty luncheon buffet of Beef and Chicken with trimmings worthy of a presidential celebration.
In addition to the 44 people attending at the RSVP Event Center, 453 Wards Corner Road, Loveland, Ohio we were pleased to also have Dr. Peter M. Robinson, PH.D. Professor of History at Mount St. Joseph University present a very unique perspective on this president’s precedency. How Washington constructed a process for his future replacements to become effective presidential without the excessive pomp that prompted the Revolution, but satisfied the demeanor befit this new county’s need for leadership.
Dr. Robinson’s perspective was a refreshing enlightenment to the sensitivity of our first National Leader. Attendees were appreciative of the historical truth intertwined with just the correct amount of humor to enhance the lunch and cherry pie.
Finally, after recognition of two members outstanding awards from the December’s Awards night, supplemental memberships were presented to five of our members. The Colors were retired by the Color Guard. A Recessional and Benediction by our Chaplain ended our Washington’s Birthday celebration.
