Cincinnati SAR Compatriots Bring History Alive at Hamilton Garfield Middle School

Cincinnati SAR compatriots presented a full day of historical presentations to over 700 students of Hamilton Garfield Middle School on Friday, September 15th. Hamilton Garfield history teacher, Matt Wilson, invited the Cincinnati chapter to help the school celebrate Constitution Day. The chapter made series of presentations to the 7th grade students in the morning and then again to the 8th grade students in the afternoon. Both sessions began with the compatriots posting the Colors and the National Anthem. The students were then divided into groups of about 20 and they rotated through 7 different educational stations where the compatriots made historical presentations. Ohio SAR President Don McGraw and Ohio National Trustee Jim Schaffer presented 2 stations for the Miller Historical Flag Collection. Cincinnati SAR President Jack Bredenfoerder presented a program on the Revolutionary War history of Ohio. Former Vice President General and Minuteman Paul Wilke presented an interactive program of Revolutionary War memorabilia. Compatriot Ed Bonniwell presented a program on the Battle of Yorktown. Compatriot Tom Hess presented a program on the Constitution and passed out copies of pocket Constitutions to the students. Former John Reilly DAR Regent Valerie Wilke, with the help of Compatriot Ken Carpenter, presented a flag folding demonstration. Also assisting at various stations where Compatriots Dan Schmitz, Jerry Knight and Miss Anna Wilke. This was truly a full day of patriotism!
